Uasin Gishu chairman of the Council of Imams and Muslim Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Abubakar Bini has applauded Treasury CS Henry Rotich's move to suspend all foreign trips by government officials.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, Bini said the move is on point since it will save this country a lot of money which he says was being misused.
"I welcome the move by the treasury CS to suspend foreign trips since it will curb overspending on trips that are not of help to the Nation," he said.
He says government officials have been using public funds to fly to foreign countries to do their own business claiming that they are on an official trip.
"I think the trips if its a must for them to go should only involve a few individuals less than ten and should not be done frequently to save the taxpayers money," he said.
He urged the Treasury CS not to relent by putting them on toes to prevent unnecessary expenditures adding that they contribute to the situation where the country runs short of funds.
This comes after the CS treasury Henry ROtich suspended national and county officials' local and foreign travels following a concern over overspending.
Rotich also directed that expenditure on breakfast meetings, office furniture, printing and adverts should also be cut.
