A Nakuru blogger has expressed fear over his life after he received threats from unknown people.
Kelvin Waweru said Monday he started receiving threatening messages after he announced his intention to vie for the Solai ward representative seat in the 2017 elections.
Speaking at his home in Solai, Waweru said anonymous people have been sending him messages, cautioning him to watch his steps.
“I have received several messages from people I don’t know telling me to watch my steps and keep off Solai, and I suspect this is in relation to my intention to vie as the MCA for Solai in next year’s polls,” he said.
The former journalist said he is not taking the threats lightly, and called on the police to investigate and apprehend those behind them.
“I have already reported the matter to the police in Rongai and I expect them to take necessary action but my resolve to represent Solai people will not change. I want those threatening me to face me at the ballot,” he said.
He called on Solai residents to reject leaders who he accused of dividing them on tribal lines for their own selfish gains.
An officer at Rongai police station who is handling the case declined to comment when contacted but noted that investigations are underway.
