Motorbike operators within Gituamba ward have been advised to comply with the existing traffic rules in order to minimise accidents during the festive season.

Speaking to boda boda operators in Gituamba Township on Monday, the sub county deputy traffic commandant Moses Mwau noted that over-speeding easily caused deaths of innocent travellers.

Mwau regretted that several fatal accidents were happening in Gituamba due to the lack of skills or knowledge with regards to traffic rules by the operators.

"The death situation of innocent persons on our roads has been occasioned by lack of training or bad training of the motorbike and taxi operators," he lamented.

Mwau revealed that the county government plans to train the operators to help them avoid quack trainers with a view to curtailing unnecessary deaths among them.

Mwau cautioned the operators of the stringent traffic rules passed recently and which comes to effect next month. The new law compels motorcycle taxi operators to carry only one passenger, both the operator and passenger to wear helmets and reflective jackets, among other tough rules.

He however wished the operators a Merry Christmas and further gave 27 helmets to those who had gathered to listen to his speech.
