Boda Boda operators from Mwongori location will have to register with the provincial authorities as a measure to combat increasing incidents of criminal related activities in the region, area chief has said.

This comes moments after a number of operators were accused by local residents of teaming up with armed robbers to execute random robbery in the settlement scheme region.

Speaking on Monday afternoon after holding a meeting with Boda Boda leaders, Mr David Ogega said registration will help the operators gain public confidence following weeks of accusations and counter accusations.

“I have handled a number of cases in which some operators are identified as being in the frontline helping gangs to rob from local shops and homesteads. By registering with us, it will be easy for locals to know the exact owners on motorbikes which allegedly traffic robbers,” he said.

He said the operators have up to Friday to register in his office failure to which he will take undisclosed actions against those who defy the order.

“I have spoken to leaders and they have agreed with me. Registering will make securing of the place easy. It will be even easier for our community policing members to identify them at night. Those who will not comply will have to face some stiff actions,” he added.

The move was backed by area Boda Boda Vice Chairman Harry Oguto who said it will boost their safety at late evening hours.

“Some of us have been harassed by community policing members but through registration, they will be able to identify us easily. It’s a good move and I have communicated the same to all operators,” he said.
