The deteriorating services at the Kenya Ferry Services in Mombasa has dealt a huge blow to the bodaboda industry at the Coastal town.
The riders who spoke to this writer on Wednesday that business people who use the ferry to cross to the mainland no longer cross the Likoni ferry channel.
This, they said had limited the number of people crossing over to the mainland- negatively affecting their business.
The Kenya Ferry Services has been on the spot following ferry mishaps at the Likoni Ferry channel.
Most bodaboda operators who spoke to this writer said their daily earnings had dropped as the number of people crossing to mainland Mombasa had reduced.
"I used to make over Sh3,000 a day," Joel Omondi, the chairman of the riders at the gate to the Likoni ferry channel said.
"But since the ferry started breaking down, I make less than that. On bad days, I make as little as Sh1,000.
Mr Omondi called on the government to buy new ferries to ease the movement of people to mainland Mombasa.
The riders spoke several weeks after two ferries at the Likoni ferry channel broke down barring traders from crossing the channel to mainland Mombasa.
Governor Ali Hassan Joho after the breakdown told government to buy two more ferries to replace the old ones which, he said posed a threat to the lives of commuters.
President Uhuru Kenyatta during his recent visit to Likoni promised to address the issue.
