Limuru OCPD Mohammed Bakuli has asked bodaboda riders operating in the area to wear helmets and reflector jackets for their own safety.

Speaking in Limuru town on Thursday, Mr Bakuli noted that most bodaboda’s operating in the area do not wear reflector jackets leading to high cases of them being knocked down by motorists especially at night.

The OCPD advised the operators to get reflector jackets and helmets for their own security and that of their customers.

“Bodaboda riders should acquire reflector jackets and helmets so that their safety and that of customers is guaranteed,” said Bakuli.

The commander warned that operators who fail to get reflector jackets and helmets will not be allowed to operate.

He noted that cases of bodaboda accidents had sharply risen in the area in the recent past.

At the same time, Bakuli asked bodaboda operators to follow traffic regulations.

He warned operators who carry two passengers saying that their bikes are only required to carry one person at a time.

“We know the festive season is here and some operators may want to cash in by carrying more customers at the same time, we want to tell them that they risk losing their permits to operate if caught,” he said.

The OCPD also warned motorists against contravening traffic regulations.

He said stern action will be taken against offenders of traffic regulations.
