As the ministry of education through Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i warns school Board of Management (BOM) not to interfere with head teachers, the directive seems to have fallen on deaf ears after Kari primary school BOM chased out their new head teacher.
According to a BOM member who spoke to the press, they said that they were not involved in the education office in Kisii county in the process of bringing the new school head on board since they had been told that the deputy head teacher was to serve as their interim head teacher.
Led by the Board chairman and other members they accused Kisii Central sub-county director of education, Charles Nyaribo for bringing the new head teacher who to them has a poor record from his previous schools and also claimed that he is Nyaribo’s relative.
“We are very disappointed when the county director of education is going against what was agreed on the meeting held in our school after the former head teacher Mr Albert Ondimu was elected to the KNUT secretary seat,” said Fredrick Ongeri a BOM member.
“As by the agreement we all agreed that the deputy head teacher was to be the interim head teacher until she was to be promoted,” he added.
In addition, they said that they will not allow the new headteacher in school until the matter is settled.
Efforts of getting the comment from the county director did not bear any fruit since we were told that he was in a meeting.
