Women in Basi Central and Masige East wards in Bobasi constituency have every reason to smile after nominated senator Janet Ong’era donated 200 chicks to enable them get empowered economically.
Speaking on Friday while giving out the chicks, Ongera said she will give an additional 300 chicks and promised to take the project to the whole county as a campaign to sensitise women to be self-reliant.
“We women are so much dependent on our husbands and that is why we always have differences in our families," she said.
"We can only end this if we embrace projects like poultry farming. This will make us empowered and self-reliant."
Ms Ong’era who is also spearheading Kisii Agri-business SACCO said she will walk long with women till they realise their potential.
“We have been so much underrated starting with ourselves. Its now or never. We must wake up and engage in meaningful projects that can generate income for us. Through this, we will be able to support our families. I have devoted and sacrificed my energies towards improving the welfare of a woman in Kisii County.”
She asked men to support women to get empowered economically.
“I ask our husbands and men in general to support a woman realise her strength. Women are the fulcrum and backbone of the society.”
