Borabu MP Ben Momanyi has cleared the air following rumours that he was keen to unseat the incumbent Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama in 2017.
Momanyi’s quest had been made public by East African Legislative Assembly Member Joseph Kiangoi, who said recently at a public function at Nyansingo that he was prepared to support the flamboyant legislator in 2017.
But on Monday, during a burial ceremony of a relative in Borabu, Momanyi denied the reports and said he was keen to recapture his Borabu seat for the second term in 2017.
“I am only five years old and Borabu people need me as much as the Nyamira County residents. I am keen to recapture my parliamentary seat for the second time and as you can see, nobody is opposing me because all competitors have clearly diminished in terms of their political activities,” he said amidst cheers.
The flamboyant lawyer who is elected on a Wiper Democratic ticket was however categorical that he would seek the gubernatorial seat in 2022 after finishing his second parliamentary term.
“Let those contesting for gubernatorial seat contest in 2017 because they have a right to do so. However, they know my force and I dare them to challenge me in 2022. Borabu constituency will produce its first Governor in county in that year and our dream is unstoppable. I want to tell then here that if they want humiliation let them challenge my quest in 2022,” he said.
Momanyi is tipped to be a massive political force with educationist Prof Ondigi Abaya reckoning the legislator’s force.
“He (Momanyi) is a great leader and a populist. I am sure that he will be received well by electorates even in 2017 if he wishes and that’s why many leading gubernatorial aspirants always want him in their camp,” said Abaya.
