Nyaribari Masaba MP Elijah Moindi has called on Keroka traders to cool down tempers following clashes over a border row.

Addressing the traders on Friday, Mr Moindi said the town of Keroka was half shared between Kisii and Nyamira counties and the boundary on revenue collection had been reached on.

“We met as Kisii and Nyamira county leaders whereby we agreed on the extent each side would carry its transactions,” said the MP.

On Thursday, enforcement officers from both sides engaged each other physically on the boundary of revenue collection.

Japheth Okemwa, a poultry trader told this reporter that tax collectors from Nyamira side forcefully went over the boundary to collect levies from the Kisii side that made the Kisii taxmen furious ending into a fight.

“Traders took advantage of the fight to thrown them stones injuring a few levy collectors. A police officer was also injured when he tried to intervene in the matter. He was rescued by his colleagues,” said the witness.

Ichuni Ward MCA Francis Aburi escaped unhurt after a mob from Nyamira side attempted to descend on him.

He is said to have incited the traders.

The MCA was arrested by the Keroka police, queried and released after spending 8 hours in a police cell.
