Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Susan Kihika has challenged property developers in the county to consider constructing buildings that are friendly to disabled people.
Speaking during an event to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the Nyayo Gardens in Nakuru on Thursday, Kihika said several buildings in the county are not friendly to the mobility of disabled people due to their height.
"I want to challenge those who are interested in setting up buildings in our towns to have the disabled people in mind. Kindly, know that these are also people who need to access services from your offices and so they should be guaranteed an easy access," she said.
The county assembly boss also added that she would hint to the concerned ministry officials to deny such constructors permits of construction should they fail to adhere to rules requiring them to fit such buildings with facilities that favor disabled people.
The event was also graced by among others county Minister of Education Joseph Mathea and Nakuru county deputy County commissioner Catherine Njoroge.
