Transport and business in Tala town were paralysed following heavy rains that flooded the market on Thursday.

The traders and residents led by the market chairperson Anna Katile said the county government of Machakos took long to fix the town's drainage system before the onset of the rains.

The traders explained that if their earlier cries had been heard, then they would not be in the menace they are in.

"Almost two months ago, we gave our grievances and they will deal with the matter, and now we are languishing in the floods," said Katile.

"We call upon the county government to be responsible for once and save us and our properties from the rain havoc."

She gave an example of the Tala bus park that is full of water, forcing vehicles not to use it where the county governor had promised to repair.

In response however, Matungulu sub county Adminstrator Victor Kiatu said they were in the process of dealing with the matter and the residents should be patient as they deal with the matter.
