Two businessmen in Limuru are rebuilding their premises after a fire gutted thousands in shillings worth in car vehicle spare parts stock and destroyed their shops in January.
Paul Gikaru and Macharia Wainaina have swept away the fire remains, washed out the fire soot, repainted their shops, paid a carpenter to build shelves and a point-of-sale counter.
The two were devastated after the New Year after a dawn morning fire gutted their premises, where they salvaged nothing. The shops had stock of vehicle lubricants, which would have fuelled the fire more.
The two, however, from financial support from well-wishers are rebuilding their shops day by day and are hoping to open shop soon.
“I have built simple shelves to hold the stock, although I have bought no stock yet as all the money has gone into restoring the shop structure,” said Macharia.
Macharia said he was greatful to all who had come to his aid, and that of his neighbouring businessman.
“I hope I can reopen the shop soon as I have many personal expenses that need money, including my children who need their father to ably provide for them,” said Macharia.
Fire tragedies are destructive, burning everything on their way and at times turning out fatal. County governments in Kenya are usually encouraged to invest in fire engines to cushion the population from such tragedies.
The cause of the said fire has never been established.
