The public health department in Nakuru County has raised the concern over the possibility of people selling uninspected meat in local butcheries in Nakuru town.

This follows the seizing of 200 kilos of uninspected meat suspected to have been transported from Elburgon on Monday.

The meat is reported to have been stale, and had started changing colour

County Public Health Officer Samuel King’ori Monday said the county government will remain on high alert to prevent the public from consuming bad meat.

“We have arrested two people who were intercepted selling uninspected meat here in Nakuru. The meat was actually going bad because it had even begun changing colour,” he said.

King’ori also said the two men arrested with the meat had a transporting licence dated February 6, 2016, and there is a possibility that it was a fake.

He said they will investigate the source of licence to establish its authenticity.

“They had a transportation licence and we suspect it is a fake one. We will investigate it to know its source,” he said.
