Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o has warned that failure to constitute a county lands management board by Governor Jack Ranguma will put the vast land in the region at risk of being grabbed.
The county government Act under articles 18 to 25 stipulates that the board shall be constituted.
“In this county the National Lands Commission appointed the board but has not been inaugurated by Governor Ranguma to date,” said Nyongo.
He said Ranguma should move with speed to establish the board as this will save the county from many issues.
He said Kisumu just like Mombasa is unique as it has a city within a county and therefore faces nearly the same problems especially surrounding land.
Nyong’o who was addressing the media in Kisumu said that he has raised the issue with the Governor on many occasions and even written a number of letters but the governor is yet to heed to his queries.
He stated that he has brought to the attention of the governor in respect to the urban areas and cities Act and the county government Act.
