Residents of Kibigori are now experiencing relative calm in the region as business activities resume.

The area was hard hit by clashes along the Nandi/ Kisumu border that was fuelled by cattle theft few weeks ago causing the death of five people and injuring 12 others.

The area has since quelled but police are still keeping vigil just to ensure no incident erupts again.

Kisumu County Commissioner John Elungata said at least 13 people have also been arrested in connection to cattle theft in the area.

“Through collaboration with the Nandi side, we have been able to arrest perpetrators of this conflict through cattle rustling,” said Elungata.

He also stated that there has been no case of cattle theft reported since the police were deployed along the border.

He stated that Nyumba Kumi from the two counties will be meeting most probably next week to cement the gains made through this short period and also lay down strategies to sustain it.

“We are happy that activities have resumed at Kibigori and that is why we want to meet so that we are assured that both sides fulfil their sides of the bargain and pledges such as reporting those involved in cattle theft,” said Elungata.

He also stated that the two parties pledged to recover and return animals stolen from either side.
