Nyamira County Executive Members will have to honour summons by all assembly committees or face impeachment, Public Accounts Committee chair has said.
Ezra Mochiemo said many committees were delaying submitting their reports due to executive members avoiding summons by committees.
“On behalf of the Public Accounts Committee, I wish to issue a stern warning to County Executive Committee members. They must honour summons by all house committees or face impeachment,” he said.
According to him, many assembly committees were facing challenges of addressing key issues tabled by members due to delayed audience by executive committee members leading to accusations and counter accusations in the house.
“The assembly is independent and we are mandated by the law to summon any executive member for queries on critical matters. Many of us are unable to table our reports in time due to delayed audience from these members. This trend is unacceptable and we will no longer hesitate to impeach those who don't comply,” he said.
