Nyamira women representative Alice Chae has called upon the government to keep on giving the families of KDF soldiers who are still missing following the recent attack at El Adde camp in Somalia with frequent updates.
Chae, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defense and Foreign Relations Committee at the National Assembly, said communicating to the families and keeping them updated would help reduce anxiety.
She was speaking yesterday evening after visiting a family of KDF soldier who was still missing in at Gesiaga village in Nyamira South sub-county and said such communication would help comfort the affected families.
“We do understand the intricacies over the security issues but the government should have a way of communicating with the affected families as they are always eager to know the whereabouts of their kin,” she added
According to the father of the missing soldiers Zachary Osano they had not received any official communication from the government regarding the disappearance of his son.
He noted that the sole source of information for the families had been the media, but he alleged that the media had also gone silent on the issue creating unnecessary suspicion among the family members.
“I spoke with him at length on Thursday, January 14 this year and the following day, we heard of the incident. The first thing we did was to dial his number which was ringing but no one was picking. We are worried,” said he added
He said his family was having sleepless nights worrying over their son despite having being told that he was not among those who died.
The call comes at a time when many families across the country continue to suffer over the same issue.
