Nyamira woman representative Alice Chae has defended the five committee members she had appointed to sit on the development board that is set to manage Sh28 million that was allocated to each of the 47 woman reps.
Chae had come under immense criticism from a section of area women who accused her of nepotism and favouritism in selecting the committee.
Speaking in Magombo ward on Tuesday, Chae said the committee was selected among professionals who would help her execute critical projects among the youths and women.
“I don’t think I was guided by any nepotism when selecting the committee. I went for professionals who have worked with women and youths and I am optimistic that they will help me implement projects among the youths and women in the county,” said the former Egesa FM presenter.
She also said all regions were represented in the committee and dismissed the allegations as myopic, irrational and ill motivated a part from challenging her opponents to work with her for the sake of spurring growth.
“All the five sub-counties are represented. The fact that I personally knew some of the committee members doesn’t amount to nepotism. My opponents should desist from being myopic and irrational on development issues. We should work together as a team to improve the livelihoods of our people,” she added.
