The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mombasa chapter Chairman James Mureu has urged politicians to torn down their rhetoric and focus at building the nation.
He spoke on Friday to the press at his office in Mombasa.
According to Mr Mureu, negative utterances are hurting the economy and that the much needed economic growth may not be realised in such kind of an environment.
He asked the leaders, both political and corporate at the Coast to focus on development as it is the only thing that can lift the lives of Kenyans.
"Let us reduce our political tones as it is hurting the economy," he said.
Mureu lauded the British government, the Mombasa County government and the national government for intervening in ensuring that the Moi International Airport in Mombasa is upgraded.
He said the face-lift of the facility will be good for the tourism industry which is showing signs of recovery following many month that nearly plunged the tourism sector into crisis following strings of Al Shabaab terror attacks that scared away tourists.
He also commended the government for a multi-million shilling street lighting initiative at Mombasa and other Coastal counties saying that the move will help boost the economy as it will support a 24-hour economy which he believes will improve the lives of Kenyans.
'I wish to commend the government's effort in supporting this street lighting initiative, which is going to impact positively on the lives of Kenyans,' he said in a statement.
The street lighting project was officially launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Makadara grounds at the Old town on Friday.
