Kiambu County The National Alliance party Coordinator Gladys Chania has blamed alcohol abuse among boda boda operators in Kiambu to the rise in accidents.
Speaking at Kiuu Ward in Ruiru constituency on Saturday, Chania said high consumption of alcohol among the riders had contributed to high number of accidents in the county.
The TNA coordinator who is also an anti-drug campaigner observed that the number of accidents involving bodabodas had risen due to alcohol consumption.
“It is evident from the reports we get form law enforcers that many bodaboda riders indulge in alcohol consumption that results to accidents,” she said.
She said many bodaboda riders have been left with life time injuries caused by accidents that are influenced by alcohol.
The TNA coordinator asked bodaboda riders to shun alcohol abuse and support her campaigns against drug abuse.
Ms Chania said development in the county will not be realised if youth engage in alcoholism.
She asked the government to fast-track employment creation saying that it has forced many youth to alcohol abuse.
At the same time, Ms Chania urged security officials to deal with people who have resulted to brewing of illicit liquor and sale of second generation drinks.
She said several cases of illicit brews have been reported in Thika, Kikuyu and Limuru in the last two weeks.
“The fights against illicit brews and second generation drinks must be revived so as to deal with the problem that is resurfacing,” she said.
