Kiambu County anti-drug crusader Gladys Chania has asked the government to empower reformed drug addicts through employment.

Speaking in Ruiru Town on Tuesday, Chania said that many reformed addicts were re-lapsing due to lack of empowerment.

She said that the county government and stakeholders need to put in place proper mechanisms to help the reformed addicts.

The Kiambu anti-drug crusader said the county has the highest number of drug addicts adding that they should be helped through empowerment.

“The government and stakeholders must step in and provide support to reformed drug addicts to avoid high cases of relapse,” she said.

Chania said that many drug addicts are willing to reform but lack counselors and mentors.

She noted that the issue of drug abuse in the county and across the country will be tamed if the government and stakeholders collaborate towards its elimination.

Chania who is also the Kiambu National Alliance (TNA) party coordinator also asked the government to involve reformed addicts in development projects.

She said that involvement of reformed addicts in development will enable the addicts to be accepted back to the society and contribute towards development.

On the same note, Chania said she has received reports that some bars were selling alcoholic drinks to teenagers, and called upon the police to revoke the licenses of the said bar owners.
