Kiambu County TNA coordinator Gladys Chania has challenged residents to be ambassadors of a clean environment and help protect the eco-system.

Speaking when she led residents in cleaning up section of Mwiki town in Githurai, Ruiru constituency on Wednesday, Chania said that conservation of environment is the responsibility of every citizen.

Chania noted that environment pollution threatens the existence of human beings adding that proper measures need to be put in place to ensure that its safeguarded.

“We all must stop the bad activities we engage in that pollute and threaten the existence of a clean environment,” she said.

Chania observed that pollution of environment has resulted to global warming and other hazards that threaten human life.

“Our lives as human beings are dependent on the environment and we all must do something towards protecting it,” she said.

She urged the residents to be on the front line in championing the cleaning of the environment adding that development can only be realised in a favorable environment.

Chania also urged residents to avoid too much use of plastic bags which she said is the main threat to environment.

The Kiambu TNA coordinator asked government authorities to ensure that garbage is collected in time from markets and streets.

She said threats of disease will be eliminated if the government puts in place proper mechanisms to safeguard the environment.

She also called for formulation of laws and policies that will spearhead environment conservation.
