A chicken broker was on Wednesday arraigned before a Nakuru for stealing chicken from clients he made the deal with them.

Stephen Kamau was accused of stealing 159 chicken valued at Sh50,000 from Unice Chepkirui, 40 chicken valued at Sh13,000 from Lilian Owino, 59 chicken valued at Sh18,000 from Catherine Nzula and 30 chicken valued Sh10,000 from Chifra Njera on December 21, 2015 at Flamingo estate within Nakuru County.

It is alleged that Kamau supplies chicken to various hotels within the town and he collects the chicken from his customers whom he later pays after the sale of chicken.

The complainants are said to have never received their said amounts that they were to receive from Kamau after sales.

They reported the matter to Bondeni Police Station and the accused was arrested and charged for stealing the chicken.

State Prosecutor Sandra Kosgei urged the court not to grant bond terms to the accused since the investigations were still ongoing and some complainants were said to be reporting their case at the police station.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Doreen Mulekyo, Kamau pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Mulekyo ordered that that Kamau be remanded at Nakuru Police Station as the investigating officer completes the investigations.

The case will be mentioned on January15, 2016 for bond terms.
