The future of 12 children hangs on the balance due to lack of fees to join secondary schools after excelling in last year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.

The children who are either orphaned or vulnerable sat their KCPE exams at Heritage of Faith Christian Primary School in Sabaki, Machakos County.

At a press briefing shortly after a prize giving ceremony at Heritage of Faith and Hope Children Home on Saturday, the home's director Mr Joseph Kimiti said all the children could not afford secondary school education.

"Today we have just had a prize giving day with our children who sat and excelled their KCPE examinations previous year, it is a big effort having received the children when they did not have hope," said Kimiti.

"As the management of both the school and home, we laud the teachers for working hard for the good results in last year's KCPE. We also appreciate the children's efforts for the good performance alongside cooperation from their guardians for those who have," Kimiti said.

He regretted that though they were motivating the children, they were not sure whether they could get individuals or corporate organisations to sponsor their secondary school education.

"We were sponsoring the children for primary school education, but we are now not sure whether poor guardians for those who have excelled will take their children to high school," he said.

He said the region's leadership and entire community should intervene to help the children continue with their education, especially the girl child.
