Over 700 pupils who dropped out of school in class eight in Kisumu County are set to benefit from a digital literacy training aimed at providing them with opportunities for employment.
County CeC for ICT Michael Onyango announced that the project which commences on Monday 29, will see each of the seven sub counties given 100 chances.
Mr Onyango who spoke in Nyalenda on Friday said the program targets only standard eight dropouts who failed to attain Form Four certificates.
“There has been this perception that standard eight dropouts do not qualify for any form of employment and this stereotype has seen most of them struggle to earn a living. We want to ensure these people are trained and given opportunities just like other learned people,” said Onyango.
He said out of the 700 beneficiaries of the program, 80 per cent will be given employment by the county government or given business opportunities as a form of economic empowerment.
The recruitment starts on Monday at the county headquarters.
“I plead with Kisumu residents to spread this message and take up these opportunities so that we can have everybody contribute to the economy of the county,” added Onynago.
With Kisumu moving into a technology driven economy through ‘Transform Kisumu Agenda’, the CeC said this was the best opportunity to kick-start the ICT development strategy.
