Residents of Mavoko have been urged to respect their leaders irrespective of differences they could be having.

Addressing a press conference in Athi River town on Tuesday, Bishop Nicholas Muli of the Athi River based Champion of Christ Temple Church said respect among the leaders would ensure peaceful and coexistence in the region.

"I urge all the residents from Mavoko sub county to respect their leaders whether representing the national or the Machakos county government," said Mr Muli.

Muli said most of the residents had positioned themselves in tribal, religious and political lines.

He said that was unacceptable and could not work arguing the sub county is cosmopolitan and therefore such groupings would not be entertained.

Muli said tolerating such cocoons meant allowing residents from the region to get polarised hence compromising the region's security.

He said every resident from the region has a right to peaceful coexistence.
