Athi River deputy county commissioner, Kodeck Makori, has encouraged school leavers from the sub-county to seek national identification cards so they become full Kenyans.
Makori said it is important for the young men and women who had just completed their secondary education to acquire the important and compulsory document for their own benefit.
He disclosed that several youths from the region who had attained ages of 18 were adamant in seeking the national identification cards since they did not understand its importance.
The commissioner said there is need for the group of persons to be sensitized on the importance of obtaining the document once they attain adult age as stipulated in the Kenyan constitution.
He said the document would allow the youth to engage in various transactions including enjoying bank services from various several banking institutions within the region and its outskirts.
Makori said the youth who had just completed their fourth forms and seeking opportunities like jobs, scholarships, sponsorship or admission to colleges among other institutions of higher learning had better opportunities only with national identification cards.
He addressed this reporter at his office in Athi River town on Thursday.
Makori said it is hard for any Kenyan who has attained age 18 to survive in this 21st century without an ID.
