The Nyamira county government has been lauded for its ‘prolific’ contributions to the health sector, which has seen more dispensaries build and medical staff recruited to the health centers.
In an exclusive interview on Friday morning at his backyard in Gesima, county assembly Health Committee chairman Mr Ken Atuti said the committee had seen most of its recommendations executed by the executive.
Mr Atuti who also represents Gesima ward in the county assembly said the docket has not also seen medical staffs going on strike like in many counties across the nation.
“As a committee, I think the executive is doing a prolific job in terms of boosting the health sector. We have seen most of our recommendations in improving dispensaries and equipping them with staff and medical equipment’s implemented. This is one of the positives we have enjoyed as a committee,” he said.
Atuti also said the county had also implemented a number of medical programs including setting up mobile medical checkup centers for free screening across the county.
“I don’t remember the last time our doctors and nurses went for a strike kike many other counties. That is an indication that we are doing well. As a committee, we also suggested that we have free medical checkups across the county and that has also been implemented,” he said.
He said the committee was planning to push for a cancer treatment center in the Nyamira Referral hospital to prevent a large number of patients moving out of the county to seek the services.
