Nyamira County government’s plans to expand Mwongori dispensary to Level Four status got a boost after members of the surrounding community agreed to donate land to pave way for the expansion.
This comes after weeks of consultations after the contractor complained of limited space for expansion precipitating the county leadership to seek more land for expansion.
Led by Mekenene MCA Mr Alfayo Ngeresa on Monday, the community members were unanimous that the expansion of the facility was of great benefit to them leading to their unconditional donation of the land.
“I want to thank our people for seeing the essence of donating the land to pave way for the expansion. The project belongs to all of us hence we couldn’t gamble with the opportunity. They have showed that development comes ahead of our individual needs,” Ngeresa said.
Community representative Mr Peter Ombui hailed his counterparts for striking the deal that will see an additional two hectares given to supplement available space.
“We want a spacious hospital that will have all departments to serve us adequately. We don’t oppose projects and I am happy with the way the community has responded,” he said.
Chief Health officer Dr. Douglas Bosire hailed the community and reiterated that the county was committed towards improving health facilities.
“Currently, our docket (health) is the most funded by the county government. We want all to access medical centres easily without necessarily travelling long distances. Perhaps I request the contractor to kick off the work immediately,” he said.
