A number of workers from Sauti Ya Rehema Radio-Kisii branch spend the better part of Sunday morning unblocking sewage drainage along major roads in Kisii town to avert incidents of flooding.

Coordinator Mr Rodgers Mosoti said the exercise aims at reaching major towns in Kisii and Nyamira counties as a control measure of flooding of roads that could cause accidents due to ongoing heavy rains in the region.

Mosoti urged members of the public to be proactive by not necessarily waiting for the government to solve every ‘little’ problem that could turn out to be catastrophic.

“We are intending to reach major towns in Kisii and Nyamira as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Blocked drainage can lead to flooding on our roads and lead to accidents. It’s also a duty of the public to solve some little problems without necessarily calling for intervention from the government,” he said.

Mosoti urged members of the public to feel free and join them to expedite the exercise due to the urgency it deserves.

“We have to work collectively as the public to rectify some of these problems. The exercise is free to all members of the public and I hope that by next week we shall have reached at least ten towns located along major highways,” he said.

He said the station was planning to employ youths who would be mandated to execute emergency services to area residents whenever required.

“As a station, we want to recruit youths, some of them professionals to deal with emergencies such as fire outbreaks, medical and even floods for effective evacuation of residents,” he added.
