Mataara Tea Factory's hydro-electric station will be completed in January next year after another contractor was added by the factory director Joseph Mukora.
The station which is a joint venture funded by the factory farmers and World Bank is expected to cost approximately Kshs. 34.6 million to complete.
The station was started in January this year and has seen approximately 350 area residents secure construction jobs.
According to Mukora who was speaking at Mataara tea factory on 13th November 2015 while handing over a certificate of contract to one Michael Njau, the station will provide subsidised electricity to nearby residents as well as reduce the cost of production in the factory.
"This hydro-power station will offer affordable electricity to people surrounding Chania, Karangari and Laini as well as maintaining several jobs. It will also bring tourists around this place and more so reduce by 80% the cost of production in our factory hence increasing farmers returns," he said.
"I will work effectively with the current contractor James Manyoya to provide an easy way of completing the project. From experience, I will place better utilization of the available resources to ensure that the targeted amount is not exceeded," he added.
