Nyamira Senator Mong’are Okong’o has termed as total disrespect the decision by Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama to de-whip him hours after being elected the new chairman of the senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee.
Mr Okong’o beat Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale to the position, by getting eight votes with the latter garnering three in the watchdog committee.
About two hours after the committee election, Muthama issued a letter, indicating that he had replaced Okong’o with nominated senator Agnes Zani.
Several MPs from Gusii region condemned the move, accusing the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy of hypocrisy – over failure to respect an election outcome while purporting to promote democracy.
Sources say that Muthama’s decision was a way of punishing the Nyamira senator for appearing to be too close and sympathetic to the ruling Jubilee coalition.
Okong’o has since called on the senate to disregard the communication from the Wiper politician.
