The Central Organisation of Trade Unions has asked the government to deal firmly with the runaway corruption in the country.

Speaking during the end of a four-month training programme for union members at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, Cotu deputy secretary general Benson Okwaro challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to take charge of the war on graft.

Okwaro said the President risked civil strife following rampant cases of corruption by high ranking government officials in his administration.

The union deputy secretary general threatened to mobilise not only the workers but also other Kenyans against the Jubilee government.

“We want the President to intervene in the ongoing Eurobond debate and crack the whip on rampant cases of corruption by government officials or else the workers umbrella body will show him the way,” he warned.

Okwaro added the union was keenly following how Uhuru was handling corruption in his government.

This comes only a day after the President warned of a tough and painful war against graft saying targets under probe must not play victims in the process.

It also comes at a time when the media, religious leaders, rights activists, diplomats, and a section of the civil service have consistently pushed the President to act.
