Business operators in Mbilini market, Kangundo Sub-County have called upon the Machakos County government to install street lights in the market.

The business owners said the move will enable them operate their businesses at night.

Speaking during a meeting chaired by Chief Austin Muema on Thursday, the traders, led by their chairman James Mutie, said Mbilini market has been neglected in terms of development, considering the county government had already established not only street light but also tarmac roads in other business centres like Kithimani, Mwala, Masii, Kangundo, Tala among others.

"We are paying taxes just like the rest of the business operators in Machakos and we deserve the same development projects to be established in our market," said Mutie.

Mutie said Mbilini residents are faced by increasing robbery cases and are forced to close their businesses early, a situation that is making them lag behind economically.

"Installation of street lights in the market will enable us to extend our working hours and our market will be a safe place since our watchmen will be able to work better,” said Benjamin Mutua, a bussines operator.

The chief assured the business owners that their grievances would be presented to the relevant authorities.
