The Uasin Gishu County government has established a fire substation in Maili Nne in a move aimed at reducing the response time in case of fire outbreaks.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, Governor Jackson Mandago said the fire substation will ensure firefighters are able to deal with any fire or emergency on time.
“The construction of the Maili Nne fire station has cost my government Sh26 million which will assist as in preparedness for emergency.
He said the Uasin Gishu County government had only one fire station thus it was hard to fight fire and other emergencies.
“My government will ensure that in the all six sub counties, at least each should have a fire substation and a modern fire fighting vehicle and at least two fire fighters," he said.
He added that his government would establish a disaster management training center in the county that will educate citizens on disaster and emergency preparedness.
“My government has also procured a rapid response vehicle at a cost of Sh15.8 million and soon it will be unveiled to the public,” he said.
