Nyamira county executive in charge of roads Janet Komenda has lauded the ‘quick and expeditious’ response from a number of public works servants, barely two weeks after she requested them to work overtime to expedite renovation of various county roads.

Komenda who was touring various road construction sites in the region on Wednesday said the workers had complied with the directive and said the move has seen some roads completed in time, beyond the estimated period.

She urged the workers to continue reporting early for work and working overtime and weekends to wipe out the notion that the county government was delaying in completion of various road projects.

“I am very happy that our workers have been working overtime and weekends ever since I directed them. We have seen a number of feeder roads completed in time and hope more will be concluded so that the county leadership is absolved of a numbered accusations. This is the right direction to follow and I am once again happy,” she said.

She, however, took on private contractors whom she blamed of delaying to complete tasks assigned to them and issued a stern warning that could have their contracts revoked.

“I am however still not convinced by the response from a number of private contractors and they know that. They have to sing to my tune or have their contracts revoked. They know well that we only pay work that has been done and it’s upon them to complete in time,” she said.

Komenda said she was impressed that the public works workers were still doing their work above average even during normal working hours.

“I haven’t seen cases of people slowing down during normal working hours and turn up for overtime. They have behaved extremely well,” she said.
