The Kisumu government has set aside Sh2.8 million for bursaries in South West Kisumu Ward, Kisumu West sub-county for the year 2016.
The ward representative Joseph Abiola said he will issue the cheques early enough to ensure the beneficiaries start classes for first term next year in good time.
Abiola said he has put in place elaborate plans to issue the cheques late this month and early January.
“The process of giving out the cheques begins on December 28 until January 2, 2016, so that no student will claim lateness in reporting to school due to lack of fees,” he said.
He said this will ensure a smooth learning process for the students who are occasionally sent out of school to get school fees.
Speaking in Kisumu on Friday, Abiola said the Governor Jack Ranguma-led government is committed to offering quality education to the children from the county.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to carry with them documents that will identify them as students.
“I would encourage parents to accompany their children to the locations where selection and awarding of the cheques will be done,” he said.
Abiola also encouraged class eight pupils who sat KCPE this year to come go with their results slips to help in allocation of bursaries.
