The Kisii County government has promised to cater for the funeral and medical expenses for the victims of a lightning strike that took place at Ibencho in Bomachoge.

Last week, three people lost their lives after being struck by lightning as they sheltered from heavy rains during a funeral at Mochorwa village in Bomachoge Chache sub-county.

One other victim sustained serious injuries and is still admitted at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The three deceased persons identified as Edward Ayiera Machuka, Josephine Bwari Akunga and Bosibori Obwoge will be buried today (October 30).

Speaking in his office after meeting the committee organising for the funeral, Governor James Ongwae announced that his government had set aside Sh350,000 to cater for the medical and burial expenses.

Each of the deceased person’s family will receive Sh100,000 while the family of the victim undergoing treatment will receive Sh50,000.

Ongwae who was flanked by his Deputy Joash Maangi and other senior officials said his government would meet the expenses for a hearse, mortuary fees, casket, chairs, tents, public address system and other expenses related to the funerals.

“Last week’s incident was unfortunate as it occasioned the untimely demise of our people. We stand with the families of the deceased and this is why we have decided to support them in this difficult moment,” said Ongwae.
