Nakuru Business Association (NBA) and officials from the county government and the El~Nino Disaster Committee have donated beddings and clothing to families affected by flooding.

The families who benefitted are from Rhonda Estate in Nakuru West Sub-County.

Speaking during the visit on Monday, Public Service Management CeC Prof Catherine Kitetu under whose county docket of Special Programmes falls, said out of the 22 families affected by flooding, only one had not resettled.

“There were 22 households that were affected, seven managed to resettle, others were helped by Kenya Red Cross but in the end one family needed some assistance. Although they were moved, they were put in a temporary shelter in Angalo Academy,” said Prof. Kitetu.

The families have taken temporary refuge at Angalo Academy.

Kitetu lauded NBA for joining hands with the county government to aid people affected by the ongoing rains.

Environment, Natural Resources, Water and Energy CEC Richard Rop, who is also the chairman for the El~Nino Disaster Preparedness Committee, called upon other well-wishers to collaborate with the county government to mitigate El~Nino effects.

Rop also asked people to be cautious as disaster can strike any time. He assured the family that both the county and national government are addressing the situation.

NBA Chairperson Catherine Osterwik, said the business community of Nakuru is ready to stand with the affected people and besides donations of mattresses, blankets and clothing made today, food aid will be coming later.
