Nyamira County residents are set to receive nets as the county government targets to give nets to over 200,000 people from all sub counties to curb malaria cases.

Speaking in Nyamira on Thursday during the distribution exercise, Nyamira County governor John Nyagarama said that there were treated nets that will be distributed at household level by community health officers and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO).

Nyagarama said the onset of rains will provide a conducive environment for mosquitoes to and breed in stagnant water.

He told the area residents to keep their homes clean by clearing bushes and draining stagnant water to keep mosquitoes at bay.

The governor also urged residents to come out in large numbers to register so that each and every person gets a net so that malaria which is termed as a killer disease can be reduced in the county.

"It is important for all of you to get the nets to prevent youselves from mosquito bites," he said.

He urged the community workers to sensitise the public on the need to remain healthy in a clean environment.

He discouraged residents against seeking medication over the counter, adding that the treatment of malaria should follow the required medical test before diagnosis and treatment.

In the same event, Nyamira County Commissioner Josephine Onunga urged the residents to put the nets into good use so that the spread of malaria can be controlled.
