Kenya National Library services Kisii branch manager, Sarah Ogembo has challenged Kisii county government to support the library with reference materials for readers.

Ms Ogembo appealed to the county government through Governor James Ongwae to allocate funds for improvement of service in the library.

In an interview with this reporter in her office on Sunday, Ms Ogembo alleged that the county government had turned a deaf ear to their concerns of helping the library grow so that it can effectively serve the Kisii residents and visitors.

“The then Executive Committee Member for Social services, Moiro Omari paid a courtesy call to our branch and I told him about the kind of support we needed from the county incluiding the county flag, governor’s portrait, County by-laws, assembly reports and other materials deemed important for public consumption. However, the county has not responded,” she said.

The library head also challenged the county government to engage technocrats in designing of libraries that are built by the county in various parts of the county.

She asked the county to also involve them in public functions so that they can sensitise the public on utilisation of library resources to improve the reading culture that she noted had gone down.
