Kisumu County residents have been challenged to embrace mosquito net usage especially during this rainy season to avoid getting malaria.
A medic, Alvince Omwanda who spoke to this writer at the Kisumu County Hospital advised residents on the importance of protecting themselves using the treated nets to curb malaria.
He further called upon the county government to allocate more funds to ensure even distribution of the mosquito nets to the residents as well as draining off all stagnant water to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.
“We want to see our residents protected from unnecessary malaria sickness, all we need to do is to help them get treated mosquito nets and educate them on the importance of using them all the time.”
“By doing so, unnecessary malaria cases will be dealt hence a healthy population,” he said.
The medic noted that the county government should put more emphasis on educating the public on the need to use mosquito nets.
His counterpart Gift Amondi said education on treated mosquito net use is key to fighting malaria in the region.
Amondi through such protection, most residents will be free of malaria.
