Kisumu gubernatorial aspirant Dr Hezron McObewa has called on county government to put in more funds towards the health sector.
McObewa said the county government should increase funding for the development of the health sector in the county to boost health services to residents.
He asked county government to partner with the private sector to provide quality healthcare to the citizens.
McObewa said there is need to focus more on the health of women and children as they are the most vulnerable members of the society.
He said this will ensure the eradication and improved medical services of diseases such as HIV/AIDS by 2030.
McObewa spoke on Sunday when he visited the construction of a health facility in Angola area in Kisumu.
He urged women leaders to join him in advocating for women and defending issues that are important to women and their families.
He said health and education are key concern for growth and development in a society.
“Quality healthcare and education is key to poverty eradication and achievement of Vision 2030,” McObewa said.
McObewa who is also the Director of Ogra Foundation said they will drill nine boreholes in the county to address the challenge of clean water.
He said a borehole will be drilled at Alango area where the hospital is being constructed for water supply to the facility.
Simon Peter the Team Leader of Make Me Smile Kenya CBO said they are focused to ensure community accesses better healthcare.
He said the facility under construction will serve more than 500 people. He noted that investment in health is an important means of economic development.
Peter added that improved healthcare will enable the county to break out of the vicious poverty trap.
Healthcare is a burden to the community adding that they will partner with relevant bodies to equip the hospital, Peter said.
He said the CBO operating in Miwani and East Kolwa wards is currently supporting 4,760 orphaned and vulnerable children drawn from Rabuor, Buoye, Angola, Chiga and Miwani area.
