"The Messanger" is a theatre group that is on the verge of splitting up.
They are a group of talented artists based in Athi River, Machakos county. They create and perform art which they stage for secondary schools in and around Athi river.
They are dedicated to their work that they sacrifice their personal commitments to put the interest of the group first.
They even perform narratives, poems and stage set book plays in various schools for a small fee.
That is how they get their daily bread. Now they are on the verge of collapsing because of logistic reasons and lack of performance space.
There is no public performance space or theatre for creative artists in Athi River. They have to beg for a classroom in a school or a church to conduct their rehearsals.
While Nairobi county is enjoying numerous spaces for artists, ie Creatives garage, The go-down, Sarakasi dome, Pawa 254, Kenya national theatre etc, other counties like Machakos are yet to get one.
County government should build theatre for artists.
