Uasin Gishu Youth Bunge chairman, Elijah Koech has urged county governments to fund youth run Saccos to make them job creators rather than seekers.

Speaking during a stakeholders meeting at Horizon hotel on Thursday, Koech challenged the youth to develop a saving culture by joining Saccos which will benefit them in the long run.

"The youth are the majority and the ones who really face joblessness. By keeping them busy, this will reduce cases of insecurity, drug abuse," he said.

"I urge the youth to join groups for them to get access to loans and they should stop the notion of always asking the government to offer employment and should instead be job creators and offer employment to other jobless youth," he added.

He reiterated that the youth should venture into self-employment by starting small businesses instead of always relying on white collar jobs.

"Youth Bunge is meant to empower the youth through sensitising them to join groups and start saving before they are given loans," he said.
