Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has said that the county is doing much to improve the sanitation in the slums, a move that is aimed at making the residences freely habitable by citizens.

Kidero noted that poor sanitation in the slums has been a challenge to the county government since he took office in 2013 but efforts are being made to change the lives of the people in the slums especially in Kibera.

"I  admit the environment in Nairobi has been a challenge to end the garbage menace. As a county, through the Ministry of Health and Environment, plans are underway to ensure that the lives of people are improved by providing a good living environment," he noted.

He urged Nairobians to be patient as the county has acquired new garbage collection trucks to help in collecting wastes from the slums.

"Managing the city is a challenge. Aspirants seeking the political seats should not use the garbage problem to lure votes from locals. Instead, they should find a solution to this before they seek office," said Kidero.

He was speaking during a radio interview at Radio Jambo on Tuesday.
