The County Public Health Officer Samuel King’ori has issued a 21-day notice to families who may have uncollected bodies in Nakuru mortuaries to collect them or they will bury them.
Speaking in his Nakuru office on Tuesday, King'ori said they have 63 uncollected bodies which have been lying in the morgues for more than three months.
King’ori said once the notice elapses, the county government will bury the bodies to ease congestion in morgues in the county.
“We have issued a 21-day notice to families who may have bodies lying in pubic morgue to collect them and bury them because after the elapsing of the notice, we will bury them in pubic cemeteries in Nakuru County,” he said.
The public health officer said bodies in morgues in Nakuru will be buried at South Cemetery, while those in Naivasha and Gilgil will be buried at Naivasha and Gilgil cemeteries respectively.
Last year, the county government was compelled by the court to bury 250 bodies in Gilgil and South cemeteries respectively as Naivasha and North cemeteries were said to be full.
