Announcing the deal on Monday, Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma affirmed his commitment to ensure his administration reduces unemployment among the youth through such partnerships.

“It is not lost in my government that Kisumu County possibly has the highest number of employable youth, who have the continent's best human resource capacity. Sadly, they are currently vulnerable to negative vices due to idleness, inability to join the labour market, making it difficult for them to find employment,” he said.

“But I wish to say that my government is still committed to get this lot absorbed," he confirmed.

The governor further lauded the partnership, saying it had materialized at the right time.

“The programme launched today, which is in partnership with the African Centre for Women and Communications Technology, couldn't have come at a better time," Ranguma said.

The initiative aims at increasing the income generation and employability prospects of 700 young people aged between 25 - 35 years from all the seven sub-counties in Kisumu County.

The project targets standard eight leavers who often, according to the governor have nowhere to go after dropping out of school.

It is set to equip the group with digital literacy skills, life skills, online work skills coding for employability and entrepreneurship skills.
