The county government of Nyamira has been handed a major boost in its bid to improve its fire disaster preparedness and management.
Speaking at his office during the official unveiling of the fire equipment that included radios, helmets, gum boots and jackets on Monday morning, Governor John Nyagarama conceded that this was a major breakthrough under the disaster management department.
The county additionally received fire fighting specialists from the USA, and they are set to be in the county to strengthen skills and abilities in disaster management.
"I have this morning received a team of fire fighting experts from the USA who will be in Nyamira County the whole of this week to capacity build the county's disaster management and response team," the governor confirmed.
Nyagarama used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to establish and maintain efficient fire safety management systems.
He further indicated that his government will spend Sh40 million to procure two fire engines.
"My administration will spend Sh40million to purchase two fire fighting engines," he said.
The move comes after fire razed down property and goods of unknown value at Kebirigo market a fortnight ago.
